Anglesey to Pwllheli (36)
3086 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 200. Sun 8th Dec 2013 - Bangor to Caernarfon, 12 miles (3086 miles walked)

The Menai Bridge
Sunday has usually been a day off but with public transport available I made the most of it and had a short day.

I had a bit of a lie-in before driving to Bangor and it was 09.15 when I started walking with the weather similar to yesterday.

The Britannia Bridge
Once I got to the Menai Bridge I saw a sign for the Coastal Path, it offered me a choice of going round Anglesey or continuing along the same side of the Menai Strait, I gave Anglesey a miss.

The path went through a botanical woodland and under the Britannia Bridge then continued through more woodland.

It was a reasonable path to follow until it went through a big wrought iron gate set in a high wall.

The sign in this woodland said National Trust and the path became indistinct, it didn't help with all the dead leaves carpeting the ground.

A Shelter
There were no Coastal Path signs that I could see but it appeared to go alongside the high wall on the bank of the shore.

I followed it as best I could but it got too narrow and overgrown, when I got to the fence at the edge of the wood there was no stile to be seen, definitely not the path.

It probably wasn't far away because there was a shelter, constructed entirely of wood - no nails, built in the field next to the wall and a path continued in the wood on the other side.

This was a good path with more natural made benches but still no Coast Path signs.

The path led on to a track and eventually back onto a road, this can't have been the official route otherwise there would have been a sign at the road.

The inner town
Anyway it was easy going now as I picked up the cycleway into Felinheli, where I saw a Coastal Path sign, and on to Caernarfon.

Caernarfon Castle
It was only 13.00 so I spent a while wandering round the outside of the castle and the streets before getting the bus back to Bangor.

12 easy miles but it is going to get a lot more complicated now, as far as public transport is concerned, as I start to walk round the Lleyn Peninsula.
