Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Aberystwyth to St Davids (38)
3293 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 214. Tue 14th Jan 2014 - Aberaeron to Aberporth, 20 miles (3293 miles walked)

The coastline from Aberaeron
I was up early so I could drive to Aberaeron ready to start walking at 08.00.

The walk was pretty much a repeat of yesterday and the weather forecast was for rain after lunch.

The coastline to New Quay
Leaving Aberaeron I climbed up onto the cliff top with the sun yet to rise above the hills.

Even though it's winter the coastline is still very colourful and a joy to walk along.

New Quay from the bay
Approaching New Quay I dropped down to the bay but as the tide wasn't yet out far enough I had to go up through the chalet park.

There was a shorter way through but I never saw any signposts and ended up taking a longer than necessary route round to the pier.

The coastline from New Quay
It was a steep climb up again and the path zig zagged quite a bit.

The main difference from yesterday was that there were more streams that I had to drop down to and climb up from and I doubted I could finish 2 hours early again.

The coastline to Llangrannog
The path dropped down to the bay at Cwymtydu and then climbed up again to run along the steep slopes to Llangrannog.

Before it started to climb too high there was a notice saying the path was closed because of a landslide.

I was tempted to ignore the notice and find a way round but the detour wasn't much longer and it was on minor roads so I took the sensible option.

Llangrannog
I got back to the coast at Lochtyn and had good views of Llangrannog and the bay.

Climbing back up the other side of the village a statue of Saint Llangrannog stands overlooking the bay.

St Llangrannog looking over the bay
He arrived by sea at this place in the 6th century to spread Christianity and build a church here.

The weather had been deteriorating and the rain started at 13.40, it wasn't as heavy as yesterday but I still had nearly 5 miles go to Aberporth.

I knew there was a bus at 16.52 and I was confident I would be in time to catch one which I assumed would be an hour earlier so I never rushed.

After asking directions I got to the bus stop at 15.26 to find that the bus was at 15.27. There was no sign of the bus and after 10 minutes decided I must have just missed it and was about to go and find a pub when it arrived.

A slightly more strenuous day and, with the detours, was longer at 20 miles.
