Log No 312. Mon 12th May 2014 - Eastbourne to Norman's Bay, 6 miles (4773 miles walked)

From being concerned that my planned finishing date was optimistic I now find I have been creeping ahead of my rough schedule so today was going to be a very short day - just 6 miles to the campsite at Norman's Bay.

This campsite is a "Camping and Caravanning Club" site and what I hadn't known until I stayed at Chichester Camping and Caravanning Club Site was that the C and C Club has a policy of never turning away a backpacker, they will always find space for a hike tent!

After another night of home comforts, courtesy of Gavin & Pearl and much appreciated, I set off from Eastbourne Pier at 09.20, the sun was out and the wind had died down considerably.

Walking on the road round Sovereign Harbour I saw an Asda and as most campsites aren't keen on you arriving before midday I spent a leisurely hour in there having a drink of tea and doing my shopping.


I passed 3 Martello Towers from the harbour, each just a kilometre apart and there was a fourth one at Norman's Bay.

The campsite is a big one, it was nowhere near full but I seemed to be the only tent. There was a campervan next to me and Sonya, from Germany, asked if I wanted a cappuccino and we spent while chatting, she was across with her dog and into her second week of a 3 month trip in the UK, this was her third year over here.

There is no campsite near where I want to finish tomorrow so I'll be staying here another night and be walking with a light pack, getting a bus or train back.
