Great effort again today Dave, looks like the weather will remain mixed over the next few days unfortunately - the wind is almost behind you at least now! (by Andrew)
You are making great progress, looking forward to seeing you in SQ soon. Will have a hot meal ready!
He'll be looking forward to that, Sally. He might need some compeed for the blisters as well! (by Sandra)

Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Amble to Dunbar (3)
309 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 17. Mon 15th Apr 2013 - Pease Bay to North Berwick, 25 miles (309 miles walked)

A Rough Pitch
I don't know if the wind died down any through the night but when I woke it did seem a bit less. The tent survived ok but I did notice a tear in the porch, it might have been there before but worsened with the wind, I put a gortex patch on it.

I had never pitched a tent in as rough ground as this before, it was a wonder the groundsheet survived.

I was packed and away by 7.20, still windy but not gale force, the sun was out but it was colder than yesterday.

Cove Harbour
Back on the cliff top I got a surprise view of Cove Harbour, wonderfully lit with the sun.

There was no real path but before long I picked up the John Muir Way which roughly followed the coast.

My view of Torness Power Station with a chimney in the distance billowing smoke was not quite the same as yesterday when the smoke was perfectly horizontal.

Torness
After walking round the perimiter pathway at Torness I stopped for a break, thankfully it was a coronation chicken & ham sandwich, I was getting sick of using coleslaw as a filler every day.

The path was on the coast all the way to Dunbar then I had a big detour past a big bay.

I had to leave the JMW as it veered further inland and took to the A198, my right leg and hip was aching and I was needing a pick me up, fortunately as I came into Tyninghame I saw a sign for Coffee Shop.
A slight detour for soup, tea and a scone (this was my first hot anything since Eyemouth) and I was refreshed and on my way again.

Tantallon Castle
I was back on the beach by 15.30 where I stayed with the occasional scramble over rocks until I was forced up on to the cliff top just before I got to Tantallon Castle.

After that it was back on the A198 and half an hour later I was at the campsite, yes a real one, just coming into North Berwick.

It was 17.30 and the reception closed at 17.00 so I just pitched my tent. I think I'll be here 2 nights as I can't see a site for tomorrow, it's too built up now for wild camping.

I now have my first blisters, 2 on my right foot.

It seemed a long day today doing 25 miles and I am lying in the tent at 22.00 still doing this log, listening to the wind picking up again.
